CLICK ON IT: Lost Virtual Tour(www.lostvirtualtour.com) is the indispensable guide to finding the key spots from the show. It not only shows the locations, but also has screen grabs of key scenes from the show lined up with some photographs of what the place looks like in "real" life.
GETTING THERE: Most of the "Lost" sites are on the North Shore of Oahu. The nearest airport is Honolulu International. Several airlines fly nonstop from Los Angeles, with fares fluxuating seasonally (summer and holidays are high season). Spring fares begin around $450 roundtrip.
From Honolulu, it's about a 90-minute drive to the North Shore. Haleiwa is the nearest town with a significant amount of services.
HANG YOUR HAT: Visiting the "Lost" sites can be done as an easy day trip from Waikiki. If you want to stay close by, your options are to find a rental, either through services like Vacation Rental By Owner (www.vbro.com) or a local rental agent. I've used Sterman Realty in Haleiwa several times, with good results: 808-637-6200 or www.sterman.com.
The only major resort on the North Shore is Turtle Bay Resort, a former Hilton which has been buffed back into shape by a top-to-bottom renovation a few years ago. It's a beautiful if very windy location. 800-203-3650 or www.turtlebayresort.com. Rack rates are around $400 a night, but shop for specials during slow periods.
Among the hotels on Oahu, probably the Ilikai has the most links to "Lost." 1777 Ala Moana Blvd. Honolulu, 808-949-3811 or www.ilikai.com. It's a bit away from the center of action in Waikiki, but the upside is that rates sometimes come down to around $250 or so for large rooms, some with kitchenettes.
GOOD EATS:Haleiwa is the nearest spot for good restaurants. Haleiwa Joe's(66-011 Kamehameha Highway, 808-637-8005 or www.haleiwajoes.com) is the top choice in a very limited number of fine-dining options.
Kua Aina Sandwich (66-160 Kamehameha Highway # C, 808-637-6067) hamburger stand is a local legend (there's even a branch in Tokyo). Matsumoto Shave Ice (66-087 Kamehameha Highway, 808-637-4827 or www.matsumotoshaveice.com) is the most famous of shops serving the island's famous cool, sweet treat.
Macky's Shrimp Truckcan usually be found at 66-632 Kamehameha Highway, www.mackyshrimptruck.com.
